Personal Development Day

Written by Tahiya

In our most recent Personal Development Day, the Year 12’s were ambitious and went to Aim Escape in Monument, to be spy agents.

We were placed into groups and completed multiple tasks in order to complete our missions. Many of us underestimated the difficulty of these challenges and were surprised when we saw that we needed to complete 10 tasks in the time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes. To solve the puzzles we were guided by our provided iPads to go to specific locations in London. This meant we needed to have confidence in navigating ourselves around our city and be observant to pick up clues on the way.

This trip boosted skills like leadership and responsibility as we needed to think actively and sensibly to keep each other motivated. It also boosted analytical skills as we used methods such as trial and error, making sure we checked every place before asking for a hint.

As part of our personal development programme in Sixth Form, we were given the opportunity to go on a trip to the O2, which we took part in bowling.

As year 13 students, this bowling trip was enjoyable and allowed us to take a break during this busy, important time by reducing the pressures of lessons, exams and UCAS applications. Instead of overloading ourselves we were able to spend time together as a year group. Visiting the O2 to take part in bowling was exciting as it encouraged friendly competition, teamwork and lots of laughter. Even those who were not confident bowlers felt included, as the activity was relaxed and fun rather than serious.

It helped strengthen friendships and allowed us to interact with people we might not usually talk to during the school day. It helped us build confidence, improve our social skills and reminded us of the importance of balance alongside academic success. The experience was memorable and enjoyable, and it was a great way for us as Year 13s to bond and create positive memories together before the end of our time in sixth form.
